    The Judgeship of Palamau with its head-quarter at Daltonganj is in North-West direction at a distance of about 165 km from Ranchi the capital city of Jharkhand. The judgeship was established on 18.07.1960 with its first District Judge Sri Rash Bihari Aikat who headed the judgeship till 11.09.1961. Civil Court Palamau came under the Jurisdiction of Jharkhand High Court w.e.f. 15th November,2000. Earlier Garhwa and Latehar were two subdivisions of Palamu, but subsequently, they were separated and made districts.

    The new Building of Civil Court, Palamu was inaugurated on 13.12.1990 by the Hon’ble Chief Justice Sri Gangadhar Ganesh Sohani of Patna High Court. There is a Video Conferencing Hall in the main building which was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Justice Sri D.G.R. Patnayak of Jharkhand High Court-cum-Zonal Judge of Palamau Judgeship on 08.06.2007. It is used for appearance of under trial prisoners of Central Jail Medininagar as well as other jails of the state. It is also used in recording evidence of witnesses.

    It consists of one new building,one old building,one fast track court building,forms & stationary building,prosecution cell building,e-Sewa Kendra,Waiting hall for advocates & court hazat.

    New Building of Civil Courts, Palamau is a triple storied construction just by the northern side of over-bridge. There is one park situated just north to the main building guarded by boundary wall having three gates.

    There is one fast track court building consisting of five courts and chambers for officers, five steno rooms and one common office room.

    Forms and Stationary building coupled with Prosecution Cell is separately situated towards north of the main building and just after the park.

    There are four watch towers on the corners of the Civil Court premises. Each & every area falling in the premisses of the Civil Courts is under surveillance of CCTV.

    The district of Palamau lies between 23°50′ and 24°8′ north latitude and between 83°55′ to 84°30′ east longitude. It covers the area of 5043.8 Sq. Km. It is bordered on the north by Son River & State of Bihar, on the east by the Chatra district, on the south by Latehar District and on the west by Garhwa District. The head quarter of Palamau district is at Medininagar earlier known as Daltonganj in recent past and Bijrabagh in historical period.

    The Palamau district came into existence on 1st January 1892. Prior to this, it was a subdivision with the headquarters at Daltonganj just after the revolt of 1857. During the revolt of 1857 Nilamber & Pitambar the two brothers of Lesliganj which has been named as Nilambar-Pitambarpur at present. In 1871 pargana japla and Belauja were transferred from Gaya to Palamu.

    On 1st April, 1991, Garhwa District was created from the former Palamu district by separating its former Garhwa sub-division. While Latehar district was created on 4th April, 2001 by separating the erstwhile Latehar subdivision of Palamu district.

    NH 39 formerly known as NH 75 is the life line of the district. It joints Jhanshi from the west to Ranchi at the east end. Medininagar, the district head quarter is well connected through railways.

    Kabra-Kala a small hamlet & Panchyat in Hussainabad Block of Palamu district has sites of Neolithic and Chalcolithic settlement in the confluence of the Son and North Koel rivers.

    Shahpur Fort is located on the banks of North Koyal river, about 2 kms away in south direction form Civil Court, Palamu. This fort was constructed by the descendants of Medini Rai in the 17-18th century. It was considered as out post of Palamau fort at Betla and was connected through a tunnel.

    Malay Dam is a nice picnic spot in Kathautia village near Satbarwa, 1 km away form NH 39.

    Bhim Chulha is a hindu temple in Jharha village at Mohammadganj. There is a myth about this place that Pandwas during their excile have visited this place.

    Koyal River Front is a tourist spot developed by the side of North Koyal.
    Bishrampur Fort is a historical land mark of the then Bishrampur State.
